EV Rental: What Renters Should Know

Electric vehicles now make up a significant portion of cars available on MovMor — and that number is growing. If you have never rented one before, the experience is mostly better, but there are a few things to know upfront.

Charging is your responsibility

Unlike petrol cars where you refuel at the end, most EV hosts expect you to return the car with at least the same charge level it had when you picked it up. Some hosts include a home charger you can leave plugged in overnight. Always check the listing description before you book.

Charging on the road is straightforward: Sweden has dense Vattenfall Recharge and IONITY networks along motorways, and Charge Amps and Plugsurfing apps cover urban areas well. Most modern EVs show nearby chargers in the navigation system.

Range anxiety is mostly unfounded

A modern EV with 400+ km of real-world range is more than enough for most rental trips within Sweden. The practical rule: charge to 80% the night before a long day, and plan a 20-minute fast-charge stop if your route exceeds 250 km in a day.

Cold weather (below 0°C) reduces range by 20–30%. If you are renting in winter, factor that in.

Get familiar with the car before you drive

Spend five minutes before leaving the parking spot: locate the charging port, understand the regenerative braking level, and set up the navigation app (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on most EVs listed on MovMor). The car will feel slightly different from a petrol car — quieter, with strong off-the-line acceleration.

What if the battery runs out?

If you run out of charge on the road, it is treated the same as running out of petrol — your responsibility. Roadside assistance can provide a temporary charge or flatbed tow to the nearest charger. Our insurance partners include this in their standard coverage.
